The Beaches x PixMob

When we heard The Beaches were playing their first-ever arena show in Toronto — we rightfully freaked out. As proud Canadians and longtime fans, we knew this was a moment worth igniting.

We kicked off the band's Scotiabank Arena debut with our Spotlight Series—sponsoring our signature world-tour fan experience to give the night the scale and energy it deserved (and to make these rockstars shine even brighter).

"We're always looking for ways to elevate our performance - to make it really special. The fact you reached out for our hometown Toronto show on our first-ever arena tour is just really amazing. I'm so excited to see it all come together."

From the outside, it could be hard to believe that female artists aren't dominating the music industry.

Larger than life musicians like Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Billie Eilish remain some of the highest-grossing artists of all time. Culturally, female musicians continue to define the industry space, and represent some of its greatest success stories. (We see you too Rihanna and Ariana).

But - statistics paint a very different picture of the larger music industry - and its accessibility to most women.
THE NUMBERS DON'T NUMBER
THINGS THAT DON'T ROCK

80%

of songs released had zero female producers

94%

of all producers are male

8/10

songwriters are men

~25%

of Grammy nominees in major categories are women.

This issue extends far behind the front lines. Women make up just a fraction of technical roles like mixing and mastering (~5% of audio engineers are women). In terms of executive & leadership roles, less than 30% of senior executive positions are held by women.

Artists and bands like The Beaches are breaking those molds - with a female-led group and team showing that there is more than enough space for women in the industry - and that they have the power to take it.

"For aspiring musicians I would say - start by making a band with your friends. I would encourage women to find each other, seek out that community, and try to have as much fun as possible... And never stop partying."
