Getting to know Sarah Pomerleau, Project Manager at PixMob
Starting her career in TV production, Sarah Pomerleau found herself drawn to the PixMob world after attending a show at the Festival d'été de Québec. Just a few months later, she joined the company as a project manager.
Today, she is the bridge between our international clients and internal departments, collaborating closely across functions to deliver memorable fan experiences at shows worldwide.
We sat down with Sarah to take a closer look at her multi-faceted role as project manager, unpack her everyday challenges, and learn how she unwinds after work.
1. Could you share your career trajectory and how you landed the project manager role at PixMob?
I’ve always been inclined towards cultural fields and started working in TV production while still at college. After graduation, I joined a friend’s music company as a project manager working closely with small businesses. I moved back into TV production with a travel show.
A couple of years ago, I went to see P!nk at the Festival d'été de Québec, where I met Sophie (Executive Producer at PixMob). That was my first experience at a PixMob event, and it was mind-blowing!
I walked away feeling that that was the sort of technology I could see myself being a part of. A few months later when I learned that PixMob was hiring, it was an easy decision. I connected with Sophie, and here I am.
My PixMob journey started as a fan experience at an event and came a full circle when I joined the company as a project manager to deliver the same“wow” moments at shows around the globe.
2. Describe your typical workday? What do you enjoy the most about your role?
In our industry, every day is a new challenge, given the dynamic nature of our work. The beauty of my work is that no two workdays look the same.
I improvise, problem-solve, and deliver on deadlines every day, which makes my work highly rewarding. My days are spent working with clients and helping our team on-site at events put on a great show.
I enjoy building relationships with our fantastic clients and enabling them to deliver an immersive fan experience. When I was a teenager, I worked for my family-owned business part-time in a client-facing capacity, which is why I love building rapport with customers.
I like to find out clients’ requirements and tools on hand to deliver a solution that works best for them. It’s challenging since every client is different, and we work with culturally diverse teams worldwide. Working with our amazing clients keeps me going (and also on my toes); It’s a sweet mix of learning on the fly, customizing solutions, and making it work for every single client.
3. How do you collaborate with internal teams to execute a project?
As a project manager, my role touches different functions in the company—sales, production, and operations, to name a few. I view a project manager’s role as the bridge between the client and the company and also between internal departments. That way, I can see the project through to completion.
In my role, I collaborate across departments to ensure we are well-coordinated and playing as a team to guarantee the best outcome for our clients. In my experience, everyone at PixMob helps each other and goes the extra mile to make project delivery as smooth as possible.
4. What’s your favorite memory of working at PixMob?
The relationships I have with my colleagues and clients are my favorite bit. I’ve met and worked with brilliant people. 2020 was a challenging year for many of us and meant that work was one aspect of the “social” lives we still had. Our colleagues saw us on our good days and bad days, which strengthened our camaraderie. I’m happy to say that I’ve forged beautiful friendships at work that transcend beyond work!
5. Now a fun question to mix it up a bit. What do you like to do outside of work?
Being a social person, I love spending time with friends and family. Additionally, I’m always up for an adventure, so I like to try new outdoor activities. I enjoy hiking and biking. Music is also a big part of my life, and I practice and play the piano when I can.
6. Any advice for someone starting as a project manager in the live events space?
Stay flexible and ready to improvise! In the live-event space, things move very quickly, and unexpected challenges may come your way. Be willing to learn quickly, embrace the unpredictability, and just give it your best shot.
